some intense blogging on the way

i've got a few topics --

1. i've discovered that i've done my best thinking as of late in the bathroom. the bathroom is the place where you to to think about yourself. You focus on your makeup and your hair, you primp yourself to look nice. You gaze into your own eyes in your mirror. I've just come to the conclusion that my best writing was developed there. Only I don't get out in time to write it down, which is a real shame. I've thought up some pretty cool lines but as soon as I go onto my next step of makeup, I've lost it. So when I realized this realization while I was indeed in the bathroom, I quickly ran out and wrote it down so I could be a good blogger and write it here. So I bet the next time you go to the bathroom and look yourself in the eye, you'll think of this. And then you'll think of something awesome. And then you'll forget it. Shame.

2. I'm on a creativity spree. I haven't done much with that lately, so I'm finally cracking down. Now my idea may seem petty and pointless, but in my head it's beautiful. I've been thinking about my career as a journalist a lot lately, and I've got huge stacks of magazines to get through. Whenever I'm reading something I always find a quote that I want to write down but I never get to it (like topic 1, ha, maybe I'm just lazy. Oh wait, I am). And this time, it's all going to come together. I'm making a big binder of magazine clippings, quotes, tactics I figure out of journalists' writing styles, and pictures. I'm excited. I'll update my progress, maybe.

3. I have a new love and it is PODCASTS. I can't believe I didn't know about them until recently. They're free, informational, and just all around awesome. I've got my Indie Canadian stations like CBC Radio 3, IndieFeed, NPR Music and All Songs Considered, Paste Culture Club, and some silly ones like Scrubs, Best of YouTube, and VH1 Best Week Ever. I've yet to thoroughly go through this new library, but I'm exhilerated just looking at it. Last night, I listened to a Ben Gibbard acoustic show, for free, feeling like I was sitting right next to him. Tell me it doesn't get any better than that.

4. Lately, I cannot get enough of the following music artists: The Arcade Fire (read this), !!! (listen to this), and Sam Roberts (is coming to Buffalo for FREE in July!).

5. My ending note is that my dog is amazing.

i think i've blogged myself out for the time being. until next time!

must be the moon

sometimes your imagination gets the better of you. there's a storm that has twirled itself up into high speeds inside your head. it tears loose all of those files you've established and lets them fall somewhere totally unpredictable. you need to find someplace to hide. you need that stable feeling of safety; someone's arms to grace the already standing hairs on your own, someone to open up that umbrella to shield you from the storm. even just a warm spot under a blanket by the fire would be nice. maybe even a cup of tea. you want to lock your fingers around that tea cup don't you? well you can't. it's too big; full of all your sorrowful tears of how you aren't good enough. not for the "real world" yet. there's always someone better. laughing at you behind a silk screen. there are days where you sit on your couch that's adjacent to that perfect picture window, and you look out, thinking "how am i here during all of this chaos?" well kid, you're here for something, you have to be. you may not have found it yet, but the storm won't last forever. you'll pull through. it may not be the cliche moment from the movies you've always hoped for, but it's something. life comes at you in the most random forms sometimes - whether it is a photograph of a mysterious building or a late night conversation via interweb. everything means something in my book.

drifting patterns // introduction part two.

what a wonderful start to my first real entry. i just accidentally deleted the ACTUAL first real entry. oops. well hey, second drafts are good.

stress and caffeine have become my best friends. school has dominated me and left huge black circles under my eyes. so much to do for every class, essays, books, and stuff for the eyeopener as well. which i enjoy, and hope to keep doing. speaking of the eyeopener, saw jamie today and he asked if i was running for any eye position for next year. i wasn't planning on it, but after thinking about it all day, i'm considering running for assistant photo ...person. not exactly sure what it does just yet, but i think it would be pretty cool. i've been enjoying the eye lately, so i think it would be fun. and its a way to keep me going with photography. the only thing im not so keen on is the speech part. (eye people, if you're reading this... any advice?) hmmm.

today marks the one month mark until my last exam and going home. gah. i won't bore you with my nostalgia. but keep this in mind -- i only live two hours away from good ol TO. meaning i'll be up here like every other week.... soo... want me to crash at your place? awesomeee.

today also marked the 2 weeks since Kevin O'Donnell from Rolling Stone emailed saying he'd get back within 2 weeks about the internship. i didn't get an email. oh well... i guess there's always next year...

lately i feel like all creativity has been ripped from me. i haven't written any poems or anything lately. i haven't taken any sweet artsy photos. i partly blame this on ryerson for not letting me take creative writing/photography classes. the only other things i sort of consider myself good at. (namely because i'm not good at anything else // interested in anything else.) so i'm on a mission to find my creativity again. we'll see how this one goes..

i'm still reeling from The Shins show on saturday. love them. so much.

question: do you think it's worth it to worry about your future?
(I'm going to be doing questions at the end of each entry, so answer them, damnit!)

ps -- this blog basically sucked. i credit it to catching a cold. i promise the blogging will get better.
