have you seen my ghost?
if you want to know what i've been up to...
-i got the internship at Chart magazine. I have news stories up usually Monday-Wednesday on www.chartattack.com. Check it out. It's fun. I sit at a desk two days a week and research bands, most of whom I don't know, but it's cool. The office is fun and there's lots to look at (i.e. old band stickers, posters, magazines everywhere). Definitely has reaffirmed my love for music magazines.
-i am now a co-host and co-producer of a radio show with my two friends called Rude Awakenings. It's on Wednesday mornings at 6:30am (groan). But it's a ton of fun. It's for my campus's newspaper, The Eyeopener. You can catch it on 88.1 in Toronto, or stream online at www.ckln.fm.
-i'm still in my second year of journalism at Ryerson University ... fun funnn.
I've got a lot ahead of me in terms of goals. Within the next year I'd like to get an internship in NYC or here (summer), become Arts and Life editor (fall), and study abroad (spring). It's going to be one heck of a year, and I'll pretty much be rarely going home to Buffalo, NY, but i'm okay with that. I've recently come to the conclusion that everyone there is stuck in a place that isn't going anywhere or at least not fast enough, and in Toronto i am motivated towards my goals and i'm actually doing something whereas whenever i go home i become lazy and unmotivated. sigh. sorry, Buffalo.
I might be starting a joined blog with a friend of mine, it will bring all sorts of calamity, I'm sure!
other than that, not much is going on.

it's all about compromise
My insane workload is over. over! The relief I am feeling right now is great, except I can't feel much off of less than three hours of sleep. My two essays are done. My two tests are done. My two articles are done. two two two. Now I can actually go grocery shopping and not drink a Rockstar every night in order to stay awake. Hello lazy weekend that I will be procrastinating from reading Hamlet (ahhh) and studying for my two english exams. Whatever. Ugly Betty marathon, here I come.
So I keep saying I'll update you guys later on what's been going on in my life. Seeing as I'm incredibly tired and lazy, you're just going to have to settle with a quick list. (I highly doubt you'll mind seeing as I don't even know if there is in fact a "you guys" aka comment me sometime, let me know you're reading!) So here goes. Massive things that have happened since I stopped blogging over the summer.
- worked at the Buffalo News for Gusto. Interviewed Old Crow Medicine Show, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, and Mobile.
- took lots of trips up to Toronto over the summer working on the house & seeing people. was a pretty good time.
- went to Long Island and New York City to see family. I still haven't posted pictures of that, and it was in August. oops.
- started my second year of university. It's much harder, with a lot of random and useless work, but I do what I gotta do. I haven't had much chance at having a life this semester, but I make do with what I have. It's all progression.
- went to a heap of amazing concerts. Sadly the concert season has died for the winter, but here's who I saw: Virgin Festival (look it up I cant say all the names), Rilo Kiley, The National, Kevin Drew, M.I.A/Datarock/Holy Fuck, Dragonette/Most Serene Republic, Architecture in Helsinki, !!!, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. All amazing, pretty much.
- had the best day of my life. aka, I met J.K. Rowling. I had won tickets to go see her only Canadian tour date on October 23rd. It was amazing. I have a signed book. I will always love that woman. Anyways, I wrote a story about it for the Buffalo News and it was #1 viewed on their website for two days. It was also cover story.
- started working on a feature about women music journalists. Interviewed Helen Spitzer, Tabbassum Siddiqui, and Amanda Ash. all really great women.
Coming up:
- Eyeopener elections -- this time for Arts & Life editor.
- Jose Gonzalez show. sososo excited.
- Winter break -- Home, Florida, Home, Toronto, Home.
- My 20th birthday. Ah...
Okay. That's enough. My non-jewish friend is pulling on my sleve getting me to leave.

down the line
i say "like" way too much.
hello, new year's resolution.
on another note, today is my last day of crazy.
feature & studying for a final.
the shock of what i have to do today hasn't hit me yet, but then again, whatever.
my weekend consists of sleeping, taking fake band photos (ha), and having a non-traditional american thanksgiving.
ok, back to the interviews, writing, studying, and watching some repairman unplug our stove.
(oh yes, our landlord finally gave in and got us a new stove, washer, and dryer. i feel like chanukah came a month early.)
p.s. it's snowing and i kind of already hate it.
for some reason i have not been looking forward to this winter at all.

some intense blogging on the way
1. i've discovered that i've done my best thinking as of late in the bathroom. the bathroom is the place where you to to think about yourself. You focus on your makeup and your hair, you primp yourself to look nice. You gaze into your own eyes in your mirror. I've just come to the conclusion that my best writing was developed there. Only I don't get out in time to write it down, which is a real shame. I've thought up some pretty cool lines but as soon as I go onto my next step of makeup, I've lost it. So when I realized this realization while I was indeed in the bathroom, I quickly ran out and wrote it down so I could be a good blogger and write it here. So I bet the next time you go to the bathroom and look yourself in the eye, you'll think of this. And then you'll think of something awesome. And then you'll forget it. Shame.
2. I'm on a creativity spree. I haven't done much with that lately, so I'm finally cracking down. Now my idea may seem petty and pointless, but in my head it's beautiful. I've been thinking about my career as a journalist a lot lately, and I've got huge stacks of magazines to get through. Whenever I'm reading something I always find a quote that I want to write down but I never get to it (like topic 1, ha, maybe I'm just lazy. Oh wait, I am). And this time, it's all going to come together. I'm making a big binder of magazine clippings, quotes, tactics I figure out of journalists' writing styles, and pictures. I'm excited. I'll update my progress, maybe.
3. I have a new love and it is PODCASTS. I can't believe I didn't know about them until recently. They're free, informational, and just all around awesome. I've got my Indie Canadian stations like CBC Radio 3, IndieFeed, NPR Music and All Songs Considered, Paste Culture Club, and some silly ones like Scrubs, Best of YouTube, and VH1 Best Week Ever. I've yet to thoroughly go through this new library, but I'm exhilerated just looking at it. Last night, I listened to a Ben Gibbard acoustic show, for free, feeling like I was sitting right next to him. Tell me it doesn't get any better than that.
4. Lately, I cannot get enough of the following music artists: The Arcade Fire (read this), !!! (listen to this), and Sam Roberts (is coming to Buffalo for FREE in July!).
5. My ending note is that my dog is amazing.
i think i've blogged myself out for the time being. until next time!
